“Don’t brood. Get on with living and loving. You don’t have forever.”
– Leo Buscagli
Hi, my name is Jae and I’m an overthinker.
Have you ever over-analyze your life, future, and expectations? If you’re gonna end up rich like your father or poor like some of your close relatives. (or anyone you might relate to – whichever the case may be) If the degree you’re paying large sums for is actually going to earn you a comfortable life. Et cetera, Et cetera
Jobs are essential – You know particularly when you have ambition – poverty is a motivation. (my friend said that to me today) so no one has to tell you to get up and get your shit together also because you have no trust fund and if you’re wanna end up successful without any help or handouts, you have to do it yourself or you might starve to death or become homeless.
You might have this long list of adventures, a bucket list if you call it that – travel ideas, to live life to the fullest. Some decisions might be risky – but what is life without risks?
Every time it feels you’re doing it right, something somewhere pops up and takes up all the money you’ve saved or invested. Bills just keep on keeping on.
The big question is – Does it ever stop? Can you stop worrying over the unknown or over-worrying as the case may be?
I’m an overthinker. I relieve embarrassing moments in my head and talk with myself. Rehearse scenarios. I’m dramatic when it’s needed or not. The good part is I don’t have trouble sleeping at all. Once my head hits the pillow, I’m good.
Overthinking no dey solve problem
Nigerian slang
Are you an overthinker like me? Or you are in denial? Either way here’s how to know you’re one. So you could gladly join my team. No need to be ashamed. (Insert smile emoji)
- You rehearse or relieve conversations or situations that have or might happen in your head – especially the embarrassing ones.
- You say “What – ifs and continuously beat yourself up over a past situation
- Worrying about a lot of things you have no control over
- When someone says or does anything I do not like – I think about it over and over
- You worry about the future
This is not an exhaustive list – but you get the drift now.
Points to consider:
I understand that overthinking does not solve any problem, dwelling on the problem does not make it go away. Instead, your problem-solving skills should be thinking about a solution.
I have accepted that it is unhealthy and self-reflecting is better – gaining a new perspective about the situation is healthier.
- Take deep breaths
- Find a distraction
- Step back and look at how you’re responding
I hope you form healthier ways to solve problems, if you want to talk I’m here for you friend.
Love Always, Jae
