Greener Grass

“Comparison is the thief of joy” – Theodore Roosevelt

How’s your 2021 phase going? Happy New Year Friend. I’m so glad you’re alive to read this!

How many of us sit and reflect on the life we’ve had. The relationships, fights, sadness and joy. Do we take pride in our achievements and pat ourselves on the back or look over our shoulders and envy others, wishing we had it like they do?

You know that neighbour that actually pays her rent on time minds her business and her man. Travels the world with her partner and most times goes on a cruise with her girlfriends and still has time to run her own company. Sidebar – She also has a team of workers on the payroll. But you, you can barely get up from bed. I mean the last time you decided to “pepper them” in order words -make people see you’re successful or trying to be – you tried to skip your normal comfy sneakers for a pair of heels and had to walk barefoot home.

How does she do it? You ask. How does she keep it all together? At this point, your mind is blown. Your case is different, if not for your pride, you would walk up to her and ask for an e-book or webinar on how to be ‘fierce’. Because you think – It’s greener at her end.

There’s a compound word for that now- it’s called “packaging”The art of looking successful whilst trying to be successful.

Nowadays people actually judge others based on what they wear and what they see. There are a lot of people aspiring to be like others because of the designer labels or rich lifestyle these people portray.

I love this quote by Steve Jobs :

If you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.

I think it is perfectly okay to not be perfect. Also, it is an illusion to think the grass is greener on the other side.

People are fighting inner demons we have absolutely no idea about and the perfect scene or human you might have conjured up in your head might be hiding a lot of pain in her smile.

That entrepreneur you admire so much had to win some and lose some. Nothing is perfect.

Comparison is the fastest way to feel unhappy. Try to create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside.

Also when you feel a little down: Do this

  1. Make a list of things that make you happy
  2. Make a list of things you do every day
  3. Compare the lists
  4. Adjust Accordingly.
  5. Read Jae’s Personal development blogs *wink wink*
